Simmons Field opened in 1920 as the home field for the Simmons Bedding Company baseball team.

The property was sold to the city by Simmons in 1947, which created an opportunity for the Kenosha Comets womens team to move here from a nearby field. The Comets played in Kenosha from 1943-51 in a league made famous in the 1992 film "A League of Their Own", starring Tom Hanks, Geena Davis, Lori Petty, and Madonna.

Over the next few decades, the field was primarily used by local amateur and little league teams. In 1984, the Minnesota Twins Single-A minor league team moved here. The Kenosha Twins left after the 1992 season.

Since then, the Kenosha Kroakers of the Northwoods League called Simmons Field home from 1994-98, and the Kenosha Mammoths of the Frontier League were here in 2003. The Kenosha Kings semi-pro team has played here since 1984.

The field is scheduled to undergo $1 million in renovations in preparation for a yet-to-be nicknamed team set to debut in the Northwoods League in 2014. Part of the renovation will involve installing refurbished seats from Baltimore's Camden Yards.
