Särskilda Inhämtningsgruppen (Special Reconnaissance Group, SIG) is one of the two Swedish special operations units and was created in 2006, when it broke out of the Parachute Ranger School Fallskärmsjägarskolan. The exact number of operatives is classified but is thought to be between 50 and 70, with an average age of 30. SIG may be deployed for clandestine surveillance and reconnaissance. The aim may be to gather intelligence on activities, certain individuals, or anything of strategic importance. The difference between SIG and more regular ISTAR and reconnaissance units is that missions undertaken by SIG may be more dangerous. Missions undertaken by SIG require its operators to covertly infiltrate and move inside hostile territory for long periods without detection.

SIG have recently recruited a woman and might recruit more because women are particularly useful for HUMINT operations when they are likely to encounter women of different cultures who are uncomfortable to interact with men.

By 2011, the SSG and SIG would be merged into a single unit.[1]
