The statue of the Duke of Wellington, dated 1848 and sculpted by T Milnes, is carved in Portland stone. It shows the Duke of Wellington in military uniform with his cloak resting on a piece of ordnance with cannon balls behind.

The Duke was the Master General of Ordnance, at the Royal Arsenal, from 1818 to 1827. The statue was moved from the Tower of London to Woolwich in 1863.
