CEO and president of the now defunct Peanut Corporation of America that knowingly shipped contaminated peanut based products causing at least 9 deaths and 714 illnesses in 46 states from 2008 to 2009 triggering widespread recalls as the companies peanut products were used in a wide variety of food products that affected many downstream manufacturers.

On September 19th, 2014, Parnell was the first corporate executive in US history to be convicted of criminal felony charges in a food safety related case. He currently faces a possible life sentence in prison. His brother Michael Parnell was also convicted on multiple felony counts related to the case.
