While the standard Impreza VA (the 4th generation designation for sedan models) had been out of production since 2016 for the new 2017 5th generation, it lives on in the form of the WRX and WRX STi sports sedans, which had been made since the 2015 model year. Inheriting the same EJ257 2.5 liter flat-4 from the previous model, but its ECU had been upgraded, allowing it to produce 305 up to horsepower on tap to take the car up to 160 miles per hour. This also warranted an increase of the redline limit to 7100 RPM to support the increase in power
