On Sunday 18th September 2022, JH1RYE/0 and JH0ROI/P, two radio amateurs from Japan reached the summit of Sumondake and activated this summit on the amateur radio bands for the Summits on the Air (“SOTA”) group.
They made 91 contacts in total working on the 23 cm and 70 cm UHF, 2 and 6 metre VHF and the 30, 20, 17, 15, 12 and 10 HF amateur radio bands.
The summit of Sumondake is 1537 metres (5043 feet) asl. It has a rating of 10 points on the SOTA group database.
