The Mirage Reconnaissance version III/RS was procured at the same time as the Mirage III/S. The difference between this version and the Mirage III/S lies within the role it undertakes as well as the equipment installed. The nose section of these Reconnaissance aircraft are fitted with high-speed automatic series exposure cameras with high resolution capability, as well as having infrared sensors. These aircraft have the capacity to fly at very high speeds and at low altitudes over an advancing enemy having infrared sensors. This information is of great value and strategic importance. The 18 Reconnaissance Mirage still, to this day, compose the successful 3rd and the 10th flieger staffel.
