The Sydney Olympic Park Athletic Centre opened in 1994, as an international first-class, multi-function Athletic Centre. It boasts a two-arena complex and operates as an international standard track and field facility for competition events and training.

The track in both venues is an IAAF approved Mondo Sportflex Super X to facilitate sprint, throws, jumps, hurdles and steeplechase. The main grandstand in the competition arena seats 5,000 people and the surrounding grass banks can cater for 10,000 people with an option for temporary stand use.
