Tetrahedron Sundials at Es Jonquet

Tetrahedron Sundials at Es Jonquet

Palma, Spain (ES)
This mulpiple sundial was designed by Rafael Soler and carved by B. Vidal in 1986. The tetrahedron inverted on a tetrahedron has sundials carved on all six sides. Each face is a 100 cm equilateral triangle. The top tetrahedron faces South, NE & NW. The bottom faces N, SE & SE. All the sundials have polar gnomons but the tips of the gnomons show declination (date) lines and the rising and setting of the sun. The particulars of each face is in the description along with the photo of the face. The geomerty of the tetrahedrons set the inclination and declination of each face. The dihedral angle of the tetrahedrons, 70.5° dominates the geometry.
