'The Hive' by Wolfgang Buttress

"The Hive", that was created for the 2015 Milan Expo, opened in Kew Gardens in June 2016. The installation is the work of Wolfgang Buttress and is made from 170,000 pieces. The light and sound are controlled by sensors measuring bee activity in a real hive in Kew.

The installation stands 55 feet (17m) in height and weighs about 40 tonnes.
