The Rialto Theater opened in 1924 with 700 seats. In 1940's, the addition of a balcony increased seating to 1000. In the 1980's the theater switched to adult movies, and was later seized by the County Prosecutor’s Office for distributing obscene material and promoting prostitution. The Rialto closed in 1989. In 2003, a local group purchased the theater with the hopes of renovating it into a performing arts venue and community center.
