The Road and Rail Bridge at Nijmegen

This is the bridge that the 82nd airborne division was supposed to capture during Operation Market Garden. The Germans, to prevent the rail bridge's capture by the Americans, tried to blow it up with shells and bombs, but it still held. The center span was eventually destroyed by a german underwater demolition team. The road bridge was captured intact. that was one of the few successes of the entire operation.
