The Twelve Chairs is a satire written by Ilf and Petrov, two writers from Odessa. The story is set in 1927 and comments on life after the Russian Revolution and the rise of communism. The statue represents one of the twelve chairs from the story.
The book has inspired many adaptations, including Mel Brooks 1970 version starring, Ron Moody as Ippolit Matveevich Vorobyaninov, Frank Langella as Ostap Bender and Dom DeLuise as Russian Orthodox priest Father Fyodor.
