Apamea is an ancient Roman city located in modern-day Syria. The theatre was one of the largest theatres in the Roman Empire. It has a cavea diameter of 139 m and an estimated seating capacity of 20.000. The only other known theatre that is larger is located in the ancient city of Pompey as it has a diameter of 156,8 m.
The theatre has fallen into a ruin due to architectural collapses and extensive quarrying in the area.
