Toll road test track facility

Sunshine Speedway was a 1/4 mile stock car racing track that operated from 1960-2004. The state of Florida bought the property and is using the track to test new technology for their SunPass toll road system.

In 2012, plans were announced to reopen the track as "Showtime Speedway".

It will be sad when the highway extension construction from I-275's 118th Avenue exit to the Bayside Bridge results in this St. Petersburg landmark being torn down. As of August 2010 they've begun and are getting closer each day to the speedway.
