Tony Mendez was a technical operations officer for the Central Intelligence Agency. He is perhaps best known for his management of the "Canadian Caper" during the Iran hostage crisis in which he helped 6 American diplomats escape from Iran. He was played by Ben Affleck in the 2012 film 'Argo' portraying this event. Mendez passed away in January 2019 after a battle with Parkinsons.

Mendez's widow, Jonna Heistand Mendez, is the former Chief of Disguise in the CIA’s Office of Technical Service.

Since its founding in 1993, they both served on the Board of Directors for the International Spy Museum in Washington, DC. and were involved in the museum planning and design.
