A Martello Tower (hexagonal, 2 story) type of fort/coastal defence, used as part of the maritime fortification apparatus of New Orleans. Built between 1827-1830, it was garrisoned by the Confederate Army during the Civil War. Declared government in 1883, fell into a state of ruin at some later date.
