If you look a little closer you will note that the vehicles are sand blown onto the highway.

Yeah, this definitely isn't a traffic jam. Interesting photograph though.

Scan north and south. Look for truck sized "sand" among the car sized "sand". If you ever drove that stretch you'd know that it is entirely possible that it is a traffic jam.

There are no sand drifts in that part of AZ. Though the humor in your comment is not lost on me. The 1-10 just south of the valley is notorious for it's traffic jams.
