This four-cylinder articulated 4-8-8-4 Big Boy-type steam locomotive was built in November 1941 and was retired on July 21, 1959.

It was donated to the Railway & Locomotive Historical Society in 1961. In 2013, Union Pacific reacquired the locomotive with plans to restore it to operational condition. Once it returns to service, it will become the world's largest operational steam locomotive.

This big boy has been recently (Spring 2014) back the the UP steam shop in Cheyenne, WY for restoration. The Wikipedia link has more info
