Minutes after colliding with a TWA Super Constellation over Staten Island, a United DC-8 with 84 people on board crashed at this intersection in Brooklyn.
83 aboard the plane and 6 on the ground were killed in the crash. An 11 year old passenger survived the crash but died in hospital the next day. All 44 on board the TWA plane died when it crashed in Staten Island making a total of 134 fatalities - the world's worst aviation accident to date.
