USN SERE School

The Redington site has been used to test UAVs (drones) and for landing sea-launched Cruise missile.

I was there in 1962 before any buildings were built. We used parachutes as our roof on a log cabin that we built ourselves. I would like to come back and visit and share with the crew.

any vet tours?

No tours the site is restricted and with a high workload they probably wont have time. The closest you will get is the gate and the Appalachian Trail.

I’m trying to ID a small brass plaque in our church artifacts that includes “Brunswick” in the text. It is a roughly 4”brass triangle with rounded sides & ¼” thick.
At the top is “S. E. R. E.” Around the Bottom is, “FAET(V?)LA(N?)T DET BRUNSWICK.” The center silhouette picture has on left, a man with brimmed hat holding
a long arm or fishing pole, a mystery lower object at left and a low rail fence in background. It appears to have been glued to some smooth surface.
Any help in identifying this object would be appreciated.

I'm surprised to hear that this site is still active. I attended Cold Weather Survival School there in Jan 1978 as an ROTC cadet. An arctic front blew in just as we arrived, taking wind chills down to -35'F. Great training, and lots of snow. I was told that the instructors taught CWSS as a break from teaching SERE, which was hard on them. As one of their first female students, I was picked to kill a rabbit after a demo. The rabbit was terrified, having smelled the scent of the previous victim who was killed in a bit of theater when the instructor neatly broke its neck by a karate chop behind the ears after repeated stroking relaxed it and caused the ears to flop forward while being held by the rear legs. In contrast, my rabbit's ears stayed pinned to its body no matter how much I petted it. Realizing I'd been set up as the butt of a joke, I swung the rabbit as hard as I could against the center tent pole and broke its neck that way...thus accomplishing two objectives: 1) killed the rabbit so I could skin it as shown; and 2), more importantly, end the laughter at my expense. Astonished faces confirmed my success.

I was there in 1967 as a Navy Pilot, it changed my life for the better. To this day I try to appreciate things that I took for granted before SERE.

The letters on the plaque are FASOTRAGRULANTDETBRUNSWICK (NAS) and stand for Fleet Aviation Specialized Operational Training Group Atlantic Detachment Brunswick (Naval Air Station)

Time place and audience..

As a Seabee working out of NASB in 84,85,I was tasked to do building projects at the school.. It was dead of winter tones of snow, and cold as hell..but I loved ever minute of it, spent a week there doing various projects.
