Villa Lante al Gianicolo

Villa Lante al Gianicolo

Rome, Italy (IT)
Villa Lante al Gianicolo, situated on the Janiculum hill, as its name says, is now the Embassy of Finland to the Holy See.

The house was designed by Giulio Romano in the first half of the 16th century. In the 17th century, it became property of Ippolito Lante Montefeltro della Rovere, Duke of Bomarzo. The duke's family lost much of its fortune in the 19th century and had to sell the villa. Later in the 19th century, the house was home to Wolfgang Helbig, a famous German archeologist.
