As a senior in high school, Jack Gillis met Megan White at the Memphis Smoke restaurant where she worked. Jack would come for open mic nights and read his poetry. The two became friends and started playing music together. The rest is history... The White Stripes were formed and the two would go on to marry with Jack taking Meg's last name.

Memphis Smoke is no longer there, it was sold and converted into a Tex-Mex restaurant.
