Wiley T. Buchanan Jr. was an American diplomat and author who served as the Chief of Protocol of the United States and the U.S. Ambassador to Luxembourg and Austria. Buchanan died in 1986 following a battle with Alzheimer's. His widow, Ruth, an heiress of the Dow family (Dow Chemical) lived in the house until her death in 2019, at the age of 101.
