William B. Ruger Jr. is the son of the late William B. Ruger Sr., owner and creator of the Ruger & Company, which created the Ruger Standard, the most popular .22 caliber target pistol ever made in the United States.
Ruger Jr. owns this estate, originally built for Mr. and Mrs. Walter G. Ladd by architect Guy Lowell. The home was originally called 'Eegonos', a reversal of the name of the original home which sat on this property, which was destroyed in a fire. More recently, the home has been called 'East of Eden'. The Ladd family owned the home until 1949. From 1959 to 1975, the home was used as housing for a French language school. The home was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
