De La Peña, M.D. is an internationally acclaimed ophthalmologist, honorary professor of ophthalmology and the president and CEO of the De La Peña Eye Clinic, a Los Angeles-area and Orange County ophthalmology medical group.

Concurrently to his role as an ophthalmologist, Dr. William De La Peña sits on the Board of Regents of the University of California; and served as Regent for The Board of Regents for the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences, where he was appointed by the president of the United States and awarded its highest honor, The Distinguished Service Award Medal. He was recently appointed as member of the Board of Governors of the Los Alamos and Lawrence Berkeley National Security Labs, LLC.

Aside from his work in the medical field, Dr. De La Peña was the owner, president, and CEO of the Sonia Broadcasting Company and WDLP Broadcasting Company, both Florida television networks. Dr. De La Peña owned WDLP-TV Channel 22 and WGen-TV 8, which air in Miami. He is the past owner of TV Channel 35. He also has spoken on Telemundo and Univision to raise awareness for health issues, particularly when they pose a hazard to eyesight.
