Colonel William Rhett was a plantation owner and member of the South Carolina Assembly. He was a successful merchant and sea captain who is most famously known for his participation in the capture of the pirate Stede Bonnet in 1718.

Originally completed in 1712, The Col. William Rhett House is one of the oldest structures still standing in Charleston.
