Worcester and Birmingham Canal

Josiah Clowes and John Snape surveyed and constructed the canal commencing in 1792 at the Birmingham end.

The canal runs for 29 miles (47 km) from an offshoot of the River Severn in Worcester and ends in the Gas Street Basin in Birmingham.

To raise the canal 428 feet (130m) required the construction of 58 lock, which included one of the largest flights in Europe at Tardebigge.
