YC-15 Prototype

YC-15 Prototype

Palmdale, California (CA), US
The YC-15 was McDonnell Douglas' entrant into the U.S. Air Force's Advanced Medium STOL Transport (AMST) competition, to replace the C-130 Hercules as the USAF's standard STOL tactical transport. In the end neither the YC-15 nor Boeing YC-14 was ordered into production, although the YC-15's basic design would be used to form the successful McDonnell Douglas C-17 of the 1990s.

Same plane as http://virtualglobetrotting.com/map/15459/, but captured in a different parking birth. Nice find.

So it isn't the C-17 prototype, it is the YC-15 prototype. Technically it isn't a 'current' prototype but since it is a one of a kind prototype and Lockheed is obviously using it as a test bed it is a good submission for the contest. I've updated the title and description.

Thanks, I have another prototype but cannot find "picture" of it so i did not submit it.... But it's a prototype of the F-117... Would that count.
