TexasAndroid pictureShadow of North Korean Fighter in flight
I was sorting through the old images for No Longer There images, and the current image clearly shows a plane in this exact spot. Which makes it very interesting to wonder why there was a black "shadow" of a plane previously, but now a fully visible plane. And then there is the issue of whether this is actually a plane in flight, or sitting parked.

If it's in flight, then the only explanation I can think of is that it was edited out of the old imagery, which does not make a lot...

Very interesting how it's in only the one view. Moving forward and back on the street we get views of the street at an obviously totally different point in time. :)

I remember when the new movie was coming out, there was a contest somewhere to win one of these things. The contest announcement specifically said that there were dozens of them used in the making of the movie (the recent remake), and that the one being given away was one of these.

Anyway, the point is that there were quite a few of these used for the movie, not just one.

TexasAndroid pictureMoments before Colliding
We've had other sequences where we see the same plane multiple times because of how both it and the camera plane are moving. Not exactly the case here, as those are definitely different planes, but I think something similar may be happening.

Remember, the GMaps are actually a series of many, many images stitched together. We have plenty of examples where it is obvious that adjacent images were taken at signifigantly different times, from Summer/Winter changes to roads with cars...

So.... Given the current possible categories, how would you suggest I do categorize this currently? If there's really nothing else that fits, and it was originally posted primarily for it's newsworthyness, and has little signifigance now that it is no longer newsworthy, then I would lean toward putting it into the No Longer There category, the home for maps that are generally no longer useful. But if you can give me a good different category under which to file it, it could likely remain out...

Almost due south, around a couple of turns of the building, is a phychedelic looking bus that almost certainly also has a large Peep on it's roof.

Also interesting spinning the view, and seeing where the Peepster is parked. Sometimes out from like in the linked view, sometimes in that little fenced in area to the South.

If you move around the track in the same view direction, you can see what is IMHO likely the same car two more times. It can also be seen in at least one other view in the pits. (Assuming it's all the same car which, while most likely IMHO, is but no means certain.)

Not just probably the same. AFAIK, except for the Shamu planes, there's only one plane with each of the other Southwest special liveries. (Shamu has three at a time, and I beleive has had at least 5-6 different planes bearing Shamu livery over time.

In general, I enjoy when we can 100% identify the same plane or ship in different places in different times. As kjfitz said, if you are just rotating the BEV view and seeing the plane in the same exact place, but a different angle...

TexasAndroid pictureOceania Cruise Lines ship "Regatta"
Most likely the Regata, based on the line's web page, but cannot be 100% certain. In the year or so that they list, looking forward only, the only ship of their line to dock in Miami is the Regata, and the Regata docks there fairly regularly. But no way to know for certain that the same pattern held true in the past.

And there we go. One of the non-Shamu special ones. And someone else submitted another one. Very nice.

I do want to stress that, just because someone found this plane at one location does not make it a duplicate if the same plane is found pictured at a totally different location. I personally like it when we can identify the same plane or boat in multiple locations. :)

TexasAndroid pictureSouthwest Airlines 'Shamu' in Las Vegas
Gratz on this one. I do hope someone finds one or more of the other special Southwest planes, but the Shamu ones are certainly the most distinctive from above. (Speaking as someone who has done some hunting for them, and stopped in part so that I would not deplete the possible supply for when this category launched. :))

I'm at work, and use Microsoft Photo Editor for thumbnails. The main thing that changed early this year was I had a PC rollover at work. Old PC went away, new PC replaced it. Still using MPE in old and new cases, but it never occurred to me that I might be using a different default pic type. I'll definitely check, and see if I can set the default back to JPG.

Ok. I'm in a quandry here. Let me first say, very neat map.

It'd be cool for the first House Fire and first perfect game in the current hunt. And I'm sure you spend a *lot* of time finding this.

But I have a couple of qualms about approving this for the hunt category in question. First, I'm not sure this is technically a "house". Looks more like a small office or retial building. And secondly, I'm not sure that the fire is still actually in progress. Looks...

TexasAndroid pictureStar Cruises ship "Star Libra"
Process of identifying it as the Star Cruises Star Libra:
1) Noted the star shaped logo on the stack
2) Was able to see the ship name on bow enough to see it was "Star ???", but not identify the latter part of the name.
3) On Wikipedia, looked up the list of cruise lines. Looked for a cruise line with "Star" in it's name, as a first guess, and hit right away with Star Cruises. A jump to the Star Cruises page on Wikipedia showed the correct logo, so I had the line...

TexasAndroid pictureRoyal Caribbean's 'Monarch of the Seas'
I've gone ahead and named this the Monarch. It's definitely Sovereign class, and of the three Sovereign class ships, the other two work carribean itineraries. Monarch does California/Baja California iteneraries, which put this in the right spot to be the Monarch. Without being able to read the name on the bow, it cannot be 100% certain, but I'm fairly confident that this has to be the Monarch of the Seas.

I cannot be 100% certain, because I cannot make an absolute identification of the other ship, but I think this is the same ship as is shown on this entry: http://virtualglobetrotting.com/map/22483/

If so, the one in the other entry was named the Norwegian Sea. The N-Sea definitely was renamed and repainted into the Star Libra in 2005. The question is whether that's the N-Sea in the other link. If it's not...

Went looking for the chopper in the west view, and found a slightly different West view of the situation. Or maybe not. A picture from the SW website (http://www.southwest.com/images/photo_gallery/shamu2.jpg) shows all three planes with brown backs. Not to remove any of the Cool factor of this one, but I'm not 100% certain he's after speeders. Looking closely at the lanes that he's set up right beside, following them a bit in each direction, and spinning the view at several points, these are definitely reversible lanes. Descision by Nic has been made to count this one, and come back to the category next time, trying to be a bit more clear as to what is intended.

As for what next, I've asked Nic to re-add the Hunt category to this one if he can. If he can do so, then we are good to go. (The moderators like me can remove Hunt categories, but not add them to existing maps) If he cannot add it for whatever reason, we'll need you to resubmit it to get it back in the category. I used the word "humanoid", not "human". The rabbit is definitely humanoid. The chicken head is in someone's living room. I have no idea what that one is supposed to mean.

The category says "Muffler Man" style. And it links directly to the Muffler Man page on the other site. I very specifically said "style" to open it up to the entire collection that RoadsideAmerica tracks there. The purpose of this category is to get people to track down more of those style figures. I have removed this map fromt eh Muffler Man scavenger hunt category. While it's a nice figure, the category is intended for a much more specific type of figure. Basically, the type of things that RoadsideAmerica.com tracks in their Muffler Man category, as linked to in the scavenger hunt category. There are a number of varients that RA tracks, but one key similarity is that all are humanoid. Part of the reason why this category is 2 points is that a lot of these figures have already been...
