Interesting. The artifact that Parabellum found lies on a horizontal seam between two images... if you follow it out to the East:

you can see that there are similar issues in the black areas as well, which would lend more evdence to the contrast adjustment theory.

I don't beleieve that they were trying to censor anything, but rather imagine that this is a color or contrast adjustment gone bad. Notice how all the eraser marks stop at dark spots... I imagine there was some sort of reflection or out of gamut area related to these bright white roofs that was being corrected.

If you click the "Show Labels" checkbox you can see the image without the gray overlay that the MS map layer superimposes, and the transparent area becomes much less...

I think what likely happened is that when you were "arrowing west" as you mention in your description you might have inadvertenly linked to one of the mines to the west, which differs from when you captured the thumbnail. I've done it myself on more than one occasion...

Mostly I just wanted to make sure that your intention as a submitter was reflected in the final submission, not knowing which mine you had intended to submit.

Have you seen MultiMap's interface?

Their aerial mode creates a semi-transparent area around the pointer that shows their map overlaid on the aerial photo.

This is a pretty early submission... since then Google has changed the image representing this area.

It also looks like either Google changed the overlay correspondence that caused some maps to appear streched, or that the submitter squeezed the map in the vertical direction to get the stadium to fit into the 150 by 150 box.
