jef pictureWorld's Tallest File Cabinet
This one is only 38 drawers. The one at the di Rosa winery in California is 60 drawers.

jef pictureMad Mark's Castle
It's known as Mad Mark's Castle. Why Mark built it is a mystery, tho.

I used to stop off there after work to play Sinistar.

jef pictureStatue of Liberty (in Paris)
There are at least three other Lady Liberties in Paris - one in the Jardins de Luxembourg, and one inside Arts et Metiers next to a full-scale replica of her hand.

jef pictureStockton Street Tunnel, South End - Movie Location to Numerous Movies
The tunnel portal is a little north of there, at 37.790271,-122.407088.

Also, the Maltese Falcon was not actually filmed here, it was all done in Hollywood. Well, at least the 1941 version was - I have never seen the 1931 version.

I figured out the answer for the old image tiles a while back, by measuring the shadow of the Campanile. That narrowed it down to a few days, only one of which was a football day.

It would be harder to use this technique on the new tiles because the Campanile's shadow doesn't fall on level ground, but perhaps some other pointy landmark could be found.

In the new Google Maps image tiles released yesterday, the bridge is gone.

jef pictureAlamo Square
My first attempt at this map I uploaded a completely wrong thumbnail. This time the thumbnail is crappy but acceptable. Guess I'll leave it.

jef pictureDirty Harry Railroad Trestle
The bridge was removed in August 2003 after being damaged by a truck. The rest of the trestle is still there.

It's actually 1/4 in Berkeley and 3/4 in Kensington.

I didn't realize that gun turrets went so deep!

Look at the shadows on the four round areas. They are not gun turrets, they are holes.

I wonder if it's the USS Cabot, partially disassembled.

jef pictureYuba Goldfields Dredge No. 17
I saw that article about the sinking, but I think that was a different dredge. It sounded like that one was still in operation, while this one has been idle since 1967.

jef pictureSmall farm fire
I don't think it's a fire. No smoke, and no shadow from the supposed flames. It's probably just some stuff on the ground.

I've heard it described as a cement factory. Haven't gotten around to visiting it yet.
