And the reason for that is because the word "homo" has not been used as a derogatory slur in Netherlands as it has in the U.S.
From Wikipedia:
"The word homo occurs in many other languages without the pejorative connotations it has in English"
If this monument were called, for example, "Flikkermonument", or "Pottenmonument", however, there *would* be stadiums of angry Dutch gays and allies -- "flikker" and "potten" are Dutch slurs for gay, whereas "homo" has...
The circles are orderly -- either in a triangular pattern or aligned along the river. Looks like there were once storage tanks (or silos?) there. Vegetation clustered around the edges of the tanks before the tanks were removed, and since then vegetation and has taken over the spots. If my theory holds, this has been quite a while since it looks like either the structures were dirt-floored or else erosion has caused the dirt to cover them up. One of the circles has a hatch-mark appearance in its...
Tourist fiction for the Granary ground suggests that Mary Goose, who is buried here, was "the real Mother Goose". This dubious story continues to fuel the long-running mystery about the author.
I read on the GE blogs that someone compared the play being shown with the play-by-play of the two games, and determined it to be the 2002 game. Sometime i'll find the link...
But. Seahawks Stadium was renamed Qwest Field in June 2004. If we assume that the roof was re-painted before September of that year, then this game (with "Seahawks Stadium" on the roof) is either 2002 or 2003. That makes it either the Aug 31, 2002 game against Nevada or the Aug 30, 2003 game against Idaho.
And what's interesting about this to me is that, after I heard initial corrections that the car had been "6.3 miles further", I went to Google Pedometer, measured the road carefully, and got this same spot.
This is almost certainly the "H2" airfield. This was attacked on March 31, 2003. This airfield's anti-aircraft had fired on allied planes patrolling the "No-Fly Zone" prior to the 2003 invasion. It was also the source of SCUD attacks on Israel during the 1991 war.
A stumper. Mina is the city where pilgrims reside during the Hajj, maybe this is a large tent used for some ritual, but I can't find one that happens there or what these hills are named.
Military. Note the military aircraft in the compound to the northwest, just south of the west end of the airport. Also note that the compound with the shapes is surrounded by multiple fences with periodic guard stations.
In the center, translated, the words are "Always Ready" and "We Will Win". The coat of arms is the symbol of the Ministry of Defense; a llama, tree, and cornucopia.
One over to the NE, an MTU-20 is a bridge-laying tank, used in assaults, and of Russian origin.
Two over to the NE, the sun and sword is the symbol of the Peru Army.
One over to the SW, the word above the tank is "Armored".
Two over to the SW, the crest there is a mystery...
Tacoma's 11th Street Bridge, not to be confused with the other bridge on 11th Street which goes over the Thea Foss, which is a vertical lift and not a drawbridge, and which is really called Morgan Bridge but everyone still calls 11th Street Bridge.
It's true about LL and directions, but I've not seen this before *without* changing the view direction. Is this some sort of "flyover" simulation where you get different imagery depending on which direction you *navigated* from? Because while the direction of the shots are the same, (north), the view angle is clearly off.
There's been expansion in the current imagery, but still vacant spaces in the lower west-central area (Hurry and claim your spot before they're all gone!)
Smells like VLF to me, which would make it military related. Could be radionavigation. Can't find much on any VLF in Libya, but I'll put in some queries.
GE imagery shows a number of arrays here; aside from two isolated masts, there are what look like three linear aerials of 2.5 mi, 1 mi, and a slightly curved .5 mi aerial, the latter supported by powerline-style towers. I'd guess there's a lot more here than just a time station.

Interesting. Pavilions II was not finished in the GMaps imagery but was for YM. Meanwhile, Rainier Bank was being built in the YM imagery, it must have still been a BK in the GM imagery.
It's damned peculiar to me that the only clouds in a large part of this area occur right by these things (and in the cloudy area to the SE, and maybe this is my imagination, but there seems to tend to be a puft of thicker cloud near them). Is it conceivable that steam/smoke from the wells or their equipment can cause small clouds?
My bad. I went to Ellesmere looking for a refinery, figuring the one I found would be Stanlow. Little did I know there were two. Sounds like a great town for outdoor activities...
Note how the trees around the antenna were also cleared to about half a mile from the outside antenna ring. Not something you see very often with these as they tend to be placed in already flat and open areas.
This appears to be part of the slums of Claratown, an area where soccer star and presidential candidate George Weah grew up. One description refers to Claratowns "muddy streets"; could these be flooded streets?
I think I've confirmed this. Check out the Yahoo view of Bonnevile Flats and do some zooming. The low-res view is pure white with splotches of high-contrast blue and green. The high-res views also have these colors, but are otherwise clearly B/W imagery. (See http://virtualglobetrotting.com/map/2018/ for links to views)
Seems that way. The highways to the north and south of the prison line up perfectly, as does the river and other roads further to the north. There's also a cleared strip running SW-NE north of where the prison would be; compare with the YM or GM views and you see that this lines up with the northern edge of a huge swath of clearing running NE from the prison.
Wicked. If you zoom out a bit, you get newer imagery that shows the facility. It looks almost as if the colors of the newer imagery are ghosted onto the older but higher-res imagery.
Makes me think maybe their high-res imagery here is really B&W but they fake some color by blending in the hue of the lower-res imagery. Wonder if more of these can be found?

And the second radome is a much smaller one right next to the large white one.
In addition in the fields to the east are what look like LF/VLF arrays; one star array and two parallel arrays of different lengths.
