Either one of those really could be http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republic_of_Rose_Island>Rose Island. The first one looks like it's not far out enough, but it is the right size, and the second one looks like it is mostly occupied by a huge satellite dish, which wouldn't make sense.
On the other hand, the WP article says Rose Island was destroyed, but it doesn't really say if that meant...
"The Dandora Oxygenation Ponds are situated 20 km due east of Nairobi City centre, just off the Nairobi–Kangundo road but within the city limits. The main sewage treatment works for Nairobi City, they comprise three experimental ponds, eight facultation ponds and 24 maturation ponds...."
This is almost certainly "CENTRO PENITENCIARIO DE SEGOVIA", aka Segovia Prison, outside the hamlet of Torredondo. See http://www.mir.es/instpeni/sggestion/sgg_casleon.htm#segovia>more info link. The picture there appears to be from outside the circular entry building, towards the center yard guard tower. Apparently that is
Got it. This is the "Centro Penitenciario La Moraleja", on highway P-120 outside Duenas.
Here's a http://www.mir.es/instpeni/sggestion/sgg_casleon.htm>more info link. Scroll down to Centro Penitenciario La Moraleja, there's a picture there, taken from the east courtyard (with the diamond in the center) from the north side of the yard looking east towards the guard tower. Beyond the gate...
yeah, the submit form will only accept URLS starting with "http://maps.google.com/"; i was trying to trick it :) looks like kjfitz adjusted it after the fact (with a super-sekrit tool that doesn't do that check)
It sort of looks like a stitching error, but I'd expect the break to be noticeable by enhancing the waves around it. Still, I've noticed that some of Google Maps' stitching are done with varying levels of light level.. so this could still be part from an image where the water around the object looks pitch black, overlaid on top of other imagery of the water showing waves. The curves of the fading (which wouldn't make sense for a solid rectangular or flat object) still suggest a...
These are steel storage tanks, apparently empty and rotting, rusting, and collecting rainwater (causing weird circular shapes).
And this is almost certainly the former http://www.bismarcktribune.com/ec/articles/coverstory.html>BNSF Refueling Station which spilled millions of gallons of diesel fuel over the Mandan area in , leading to a $30 million settlement anc cleanup effort, and...
depending on the spectrum filters and conversions used by the satellite camera and processing, that red may be from something else, too, like a chemical or mineral that reflects certain invisible light.
there are also high tension power lines running through the southern half of the pools.
lots of farms now have irrigation systems which are basically a long pipe on a central pivot and resting on wheels on the far end. so circular fields make most sense.
"real" crop circles are shapes drawn in fields, not fields made in certain shapes.
the poster knew this, of course, but some people might not.
anyway, these aren't so special. here's a ton: ...
Note this view centers on just the lower half of the main Cambridge campus. Harvard Yard (aka Haavid Yahd) north of the middle, where Church Street runs underneath it. North of the Yard is the science building, law school, and computer science building, among others. The long building cut off at the top is the law library. Also, just to the southwest of the central block is the Harvard Square subway station, home of "The Pit".

Babelfish tells me (in not so few words) that this is basically a really high-rate equestrian country club.

Note that one big crack leading from the east promontory has apparently re-frozen over.
