When you think of punk rock, you probably picture a sweaty mosh pit full of combat boots and mohawks, and at its best, that’s exactly what it is: music born on the fringes, played by squatters and outcasts. There was, of course, plenty of money to be made, and these five punk rock singers all hit it big. Let’s check out where they’ve all ended up!
Glenn Danzig
Misfits frontman and ultimate punk-rock badass Glenn Danzig moved to California many years ago and has lived in this Cheviot Hills home since 2005. This house was once owned by entertainment legend Lucille Ball! Danzig also still owns the Los Feliz home he bought in 1989, though it is infamously abandoned and run down.
Mark Hoppus
Around the dawn of the 21st century, Blink-182 was absolutely huge. Their blend of pop and punk was fast, flashy, and extremely marketable! Frontman Mark Hoppus has the house to match in glitzy Beverly Hills. The midcentury-modern gem was designed by renowned architect Hal Levinson and stands out even in the world’s most famous area code.
Billy Idol
Co-founding the seminal punk band Generation X in London in the seventies, the legendary Billy Idol crossed the pond to New York and eventually found his way to crossover stardom in the city of angels. Little is publicly known about his long-time Hollywood home but he has been known to host his share of parties!
Iggy Pop
The “Godfather of Punk” may have done more than anyone to launch the genre in the U.S. with his band The Stooges. Iggy’s reputation continues to grow in his seventh decade performing. His canal-adjacent South Miami oasis was specifically transferred to his wife’s ownership for unknown reasons. They have lived here since 2016.
Johnny Rotten
Johnny Rotten’s iconic voice defined the sound of punk in the UK. As the frontman of the Sex Pistols, his snarling, aggressive style helped fuel the movement. Still outspoken, he now resides in a Malibu oasis. Now a widower, he describes himself as in “financial ruin” amid legal losses in disputes against his old bandmates. Hard to feel bad for the guy this close to the Malibu beach!
