1859 – Aeronoaut John Wise makes the first airmail delivery in the United States floating 25 miles from Lafayette, Indiana to Crawfordsville, Indiana carrying 123 letters and 23 circulars.

1942 – Ukiangong Point is fired upon by the USS Nautilus shortly after 7 AM after a submarine drops Lieutenant Colonel Evans F. Carlson’s Marine Raiders as part of the Makin Raid.
