A small concrete monument marks the spot where a Consolidated B-24 Liberator impacted the Franklin Mountains in El Paso at about 2240 hrs on 23 March 1944. The plane had just taken off from Biggs Army Air Force Field on a routine training mission and failed to gain enough altitude to clear the mountain.
A small plaque on the monument lists the seven crewmen killed in the accident. Since the Google satellite view and link photos were taken, a weathered cross which had been knocked down by wind or vandals has been re-erected on the monument.
