Bobby Orr statue

Bobby Orr statue

Boston, Massachusetts (MA), US
On May 10, 1970, photographer Ray Lussier captured one of the most famous ice hockey photos in history. Boston Bruins defenseman Bobby Orr (born March 20, 1948) flies through the air after scoring the Stanley Cup winning goal in overtime. It completed a four game sweep of the St. Louis Blues. In 2010, this statue of Orr as he appeared in that photo was placed near the Bruins arena.

Orr is one of, if not the best defenseman to ever play in the NHL. He is the only defenseman to win the league's scoring title, which he did twice. He won the league's defenseman of the year award (Norris Trophy) eight straight years, and won the MVP award (Hart Trophy) three straight years. Knee injuries ended his career after 12 seasons - ten years in Boston and parts of two seasons with Chicago. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame at 31 years old.
