Brian Mulroney's house

Palm Beach, Florida (FL), US
Brian Mulroney lives here. Mulroney was the 18th Prime Minister of Canada from September 17, 1984, to June 25, 1993 and was leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada from 1983 to 1993. His tenure as Prime Minister was marked by the introduction of highly contentious economic reforms, such as the Canada-U.S. Free Trade Agreement and the Goods and Services Tax, and the failure of equally contentious constitutional reforms through the Meech Lake and Charlottetown Accords. Prior to his political career, he was a prominent lawyer and businessman in Montreal.

After earning a reputation in law and business, making solid connections, and finding the funding to step into the realm of politics, Mulroney would run for the Progressive Conservatives and won in a landslide in the 1984 Canadian federal election, winning every single province and territory and capturing over 50% of the vote for the first time since 1958 and increasing his party's seats by 111, up to 211 seats, the highest amount of seats won by any party in Canadian history. Mulroney’s term would be a strong return to conservative values, that the people largely backed as evident by the 6.3 million votes won, a long standing record until the Liberals' victory in 2015. This return to liberalism would be definitive of much of Canada’s policy in the later twenty teens. Throughout his political career, Mulroney's fluency in English and French gave him a decisive advantage wooing his constituency.

What makes him so special?

1/ Modernized and strengthened Canada's economy with an agenda still followed today.

2/ Started the massive job of dealing with Justin's father's wealth, jobs and programs killing debt by balancing the operating budget.

3/ Considered one of The Great Eight international leaders during the turbulent and transformative times of the mid 80s to mid 90s and the most internationally influential Canadian leader in history.

4/ Started from nothing and on his own merits conquered the worlds of law, business and politics and then after his stint as PM conquering law and business again.

5/ Still in great demand as he nears 82 around the world to speak at blue ribbon conferences, symposia and other great events.

6/ Canada's Greenest PM and as Rick Mercer noted at the ceremony awarding Mulroney this honour "there are only two letters between Canada\s greenest and Canada\s greatest PM - and maybe not even that".

As he nears 82, may he once again as he did in 2005 when he rallied from a near death condition remind us that they don't make them any tougher than Mulroney and that he makes a full and speedy recovery from his sudden medical emergency.

And may he like tens of thousands of other Canadians enjoy and be safe during his annual Florida winter vacation.
