The choice of this place for building the Castle and of its imposing dimensions, suitable for long staying, shows that the Emperor Federico wanted Lagopesole as a hunting resort.
Passing through a decorated portal with pointed arch, it is possible to enter the big court of the Castle. The small court, in the middle of which there is the well of the big tank, is accessible from here. The most interesting part of the Castle, on the side of the big court, leads to the beautiful Chapel, in Angevin style, and to several rooms. Amongst these, some are called ‘of the Emperor and of the Empress’.
The Castle represents one of the most beautiful and characteristic castles of Federico’s in the South of Italy, both because of its beautiful decorations and of the several styles it was built in.
