Chris Rock is an American comedian, actor, screenwriter, producer, and director, voted the fifth-greatest stand-up comedian in a poll conducted by Comedy Central.

He began doing stand-up comedy in 1984 in New York City’s Catch a Rising Star and slowly rose up the ranks of the comedy circuit. Upon seeing his act at a nightclub, Eddie Murphy befriended and mentored the aspiring comic. Murphy gave Rock his first film role in Beverly Hills Cop II. In 1990, Chris Rock joined the cast of Saturday Night Live, where he shared the show with other famous young comedians including Chris Farley, Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider and David Spade. He left the cast in 1993, moving to another sketch-show, In Living Color.

In addition to his time at SNL and on TV, Chris Rock's star continued to rise through his HBO specials; 1994's Big Ass Jokes, 1996's Bring the Pain, 1999's Bigger and Blacker, 2004's Never Scared and 2008's Kill the Messenger. Due in no small part to the specials, Chris Rock was called "the funniest man in America” in Time and Entertainment Weekly magazines.

Most recently, he has taken leading roles in movies such as The Longest Yard, Bad Company, and Down to Earth. And produced the critically-acclaimed TV Series "Everybody Hates Chris," which was loosely based on stores from his childhood. Rock's latest film, Top Five, tells the story of a New York City comedian who spends a day being interviewed by a reported played by Rosario Dawson, and learns to understand where his true talents lie as he confronts his past decisions.

Chris Rock's net worth is $70 million, however, due to his divorce from wife Malaak Compton, it may decrease significantly.
