Creaking Pagoda

St Petersburg, Russian Federation (RU)
The Creaking Pagoda between two ponds in the landscape park separating the Catherine Palace and Alexander Palace in Tsarskoe Selo, Russia, is a building that resulted from the 18th-century taste for Chinoiserie. It was designed by Georg von Veldten. Construction lasted from 1778 to 1786. The walls are decorated with figures of dragons and other stylized Chinese motifs. The name of the structure refers to a characteristic sound produced by a metal banner on the top when it is turned by the wind.
