Fiastrone gorge

Fiastrone gorge

Fiastra, Italy (IT)
Upstream of the dam is the main tributary of the Rio Sacro, with the homonymous valley in the Middle Ages was the seat of an abbey of Benedictine monks, St. Salvatore in Rio Sacro.

Downstream of the dam the waters of this river formed a deep gorge, very suggestive, in which lies the Cave of the Friars, which contains within it a hermitage where the monks of the order of Clarena took refuge in the first half of the 2nd millennium.
