Located on the restricted Prescott Peninsula in Quabbin Reservoir, the Five College Radio Astronomical Observatory (FCRAO) was founded in 1969 by the University of Massachusetts, Amherst College, Hampshire College, Mount Holyoke College and Smith College. A 14-M telescope operates at millimeter wavelengths.

The observatory is gone. The Google Maps view now shows an empty field. Operations have moved to New Mexico, one hears.
