Frederick O. Hanser is Chairman and legal counsel of the St. Louis Cardinals. He is the great-grandson of Adolph Diez, a Cardinals owner from 1917 to 1947. Hanser and childhood friend Bill DeWitt had approached Anheuser-Busch Cos. Inc. in 1990 about buying the Cardinals but were rebuffed. In March 1996, Hanser was the principal organizer of the current ownership group.
Hanser handled construction and legal issues for the Cardinals and Montreal Expos' $30 million spring training complex in Jupiter, Fla. Bill DeWitt, the team's primary owner, also has a home on Jupiter Island.
