Joseph Harry Fowler Connick, Jr., born September 11, 1967, is a singer, pianist, composer, conductor, actor, and most recently, American Idol judge. Born in New Orleans, Harry started playing piano when he was 3 years old. He recorded his first album when he was just 10 years old. After failed attempts to study jazz academically, Harry moved to New York where he began studying at the Manhattan School of Music. It was there that an executive from Columbia records found him and signed him to their label. His first album, Harry Connick Junior, was a jazz album. His follow up album, 20, incorporated his vocal talents.
