Several days of heavy rain and the melting of a heavy winter's snow caused a disasterous flood in the city of Pittsburgh on March 17-18, 1936.
The Ohio River waters peaked at 46 feet (21 feet above flood stage). The flood killed over 60 people and destroyed about 100,000 buildings.
