Originally built for Phelps Dodge's Molybendum Mine. Only operated for 18 months and was shut down due to low ore prices. Open pit visible to southeast.

Has been abandoned since. Bought by a private owner. Recent proposal to become deep water LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) Export Terminal. Links below to more info. Second link has video tour of town and lone caretaker.
