This map marks the location of the Battle of The Coral Sea (May 5-12, 1942) , a pivitol engagement between the Japanese Navy and Naval Forces of the United States and Austrailia during World War II. It was the first time a naval battle was fought where the oposing naval vessels never came in contact with one another and all destruction was the result of aerial bombardment or planes being shot down by the ships' anti-aircraft batteries. The allied naval forces were aided by radar, which the Japanese were unaware of its existance.
