Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated at this motel (moss-colored roof, center) while walking on the second floor of the west side. James Earl Ray shot the civil rights leader from the square building to the NNW. the line of fire followed closely to the west edge of the shadow cast from the motel in this photo. The Lorainne is now the National Civil Rights Museum (civilrightsmuseum.org)
